Ferris State Women's Golf Takes Fourth As Scores Improve On Final Day At Cav Classic

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team placed fourth overall at the "Cav Classic" hosted by Walsh University as final round play wrapped up Sunday (April 19) at the Glenmoor Country Club in Canton, Ohio.

The Bulldogs carded a two-round, 638 team total over the two days of action. FSU shot a 321 in the first round before coming back with a 317 figure in the final 18 holes of action.

FSU junior Libby Berens paced the Bulldogs as she placed tied for sixth in the field with a 154 total. Berens shot 79 on Saturday and came back with a 75 on Sunday as she improved by four strokes.

The Bulldogs' Elizabeth Bauernfeind, a junior, also improved on day two as she bettered her score from a first-round 81 figure to 76 in the final round. She placed tied for 12th at 157 for the tournament.

Freshman Gianna Dela Cruz also placed in the top 15 overall as she shot 159 for the two days. After carding a first-round 82 figure, she came back with a 77 on Sunday on a five-stroke improvement.

Sophomore Jordan Duvall placed 28th for the Bulldogs with a 168 total on rounds of 79 and 89, respectively, over the two days of competition.

Finally, sophomore Claire Jansa came in 33rd at 174 for the tournament. She shot an 84 in round one and a 90 in round two for the Bulldogs.

FSU freshman Olivia Pizii also competed in the event as an individual and placed tied for 36th with a 179 score. She posted a first-round 87 and shot 92 in the final round.

The tournament was won by Missouri-St. Louis with a 620 team score followed by Grand Valley State (625) and Ashland (628) in the top three just ahead of the Bulldogs.

Ferris State is back in action this coming weekend as FSU takes part in the 2015 GLIAC Championships April 24-26 in Findlay, Ohio.
