Ferris State In Fourth Place Overall After First Round At GLIAC Women's Golf Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team opened action in the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in fourth place following first-round play on Friday (April 24) in Findlay, Ohio.

The Bulldogs carded a first-round 325 team score on the par 72 course at the Findlay Country Club. A total of 11 schools are competing in the three-day event with the course measuring 6,007 yards.

FSU is 18 strokes off the pace as Grand Valley State grabbed the first-day lead with a 307 team total. Host Findlay came in second (312) with Ashland third (316) overall.

The Bulldogs were led by junior Libby Berens, who is tied for 14th overall after shooting an opening-round 80 score on Friday.

Behind Berens was junior Elizabeth Bauernfeind and sophomore Jordan Duvall as both are tied for 17th on the leaderboard with scores of 81 in the first 18 holes of action.

Sophomore Kelsey McKinley is tied for 23rd overall with a first-round score of 83 and finally freshman Gianna Dela Cruz came in tied for 27th with an 84 figure on the opening day.

Ashland, Ferris State, Findlay, Grand Valley State, Lake Erie, Lake Superior State, Malone, Northwood, Ohio Dominican, Tiffin, Walsh and Wayne State are all competing in the 54-hole event.

Tee times for round two on Saturday are slated for a 12 p.m. (ET) start. The final round begins on Sunday again at 9 a.m. (ET) to wrap up the event.

This spring, the Bulldogs have progressively improved their standing in each tournament with a fourth-place performance this past weekend at the Cav Classic hosted by Walsh University in Canton, Ohio. FSU has four top 10 team finishes overall this spring.

Following the GLIAC Championships, official participants for the NCAA Division II Championships will be announced via ncaa.com next week with the NCAA-II East Regional set for May 3-5 in Chicago, Ill.
