Ferris State Improves By Eight Strokes & Still Fourth After Two Rounds At GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team improved its score by eight strokes and remained in fourth place following second-round play on Saturday (April 25) at the 2015 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in Findlay, Ohio.

The Bulldogs shot a 317 team score on Saturday in round two of the 54-hole event at the Findlay Country Club. It came on the heels of a 325 figure in Friday's first 18 holes of action on the par 72 course measuring 6,007 yards. Presently, FSU is a 642 overall following the second of three rounds.

First-round leader Grand Valley State continues to hold down the top spot in the 11-team tournament as the Lakers hold a 609 total after two rounds followed by host Findlay (614) and Ashland (627) in the top three overall.

Bulldog junior Libby Berens climbed the leaderboard as she now is tied for seventh overall with a 154 figure on rounds of 80 Friday and two-over 74 on Saturday.

Behind Berens is junior Elizabeth Bauernfeind in a share of 18th place along with sophomore teammate Jordan Duvall. Both own a 161 total for two rounds. They both shot 81 in round one and 80 in round two.

Sophomore Kelsey McKinley is presently 27th in the field at 166 with freshman Gianna Dela Cruz right behind her in a share of 28th place overall at 167. McKinley has posted back-to-back rounds of 83 for the two days while Dela Cruz improved from an 84 in round one to an 83 on Saturday.

Ashland, Ferris State, Findlay, Grand Valley State, Lake Erie, Lake Superior State, Malone, Northwood, Ohio Dominican, Tiffin, Walsh and Wayne State are all competing in the 54-hole event.

The final round begins on Sunday at 9 a.m. (ET) to wrap up the event.

This spring, the Bulldogs have progressively improved their standing in each tournament with a fourth-place performance this past weekend at the Cav Classic hosted by Walsh University in Canton, Ohio. FSU has four top 10 team finishes overall this spring.

Following the GLIAC Championships, official participants for the NCAA Division II Championships will be announced via ncaa.com next week with the NCAA-II East Regional set for May 3-5 in Chicago, Ill.
