Ferris State Women's Golf Places Fourth At Ashland University Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team took part in the Ashland University Invitational over the weekend and came away with a fourth-place team finish at the Mohican Hills Golf Club in Jeromesville, Ohio.

The Bulldogs posted a two-round total of 660 (+84) in the 12-team event hosted by Ashland. It was held on the Mohnican Hills course with rolling hills and undulating greens.

Ferris State shot a first-round 329 team score on Saturday (Oct. 3) before carding a 331 score in Sunday's (Oct. 4) final 18 holes of action. Host Ashland captured first-place honors with a 626 figure followed by Findlay at 638 and Northwood at 645 in the top three overall.

Senior Libby Berens paced the Bulldogs as she placed tied for fifth in the field with a 161 score over the two days of action. Berens shot a 77 in the first round before coming back with an 84 in round two to finish +17 for the 36 holes of action.

Freshman Destiny Lawson also placed in the top 20 as she came in 19th at 165 on nearly identical rounds of 82 and 83 Saturday and Sunday, respectively. 

Junior Kelsey McKinley was two back of Lawson in a share of 21st place with a 167 score as she carded a first-round 85 score before improving by three strokes with an 82 in the final round.

FSU's Jordan Duvall finished tied for 27th at 170 overall following rounds of 88 and 82 in the tournament. Sophomore Gianna Dela Cruz competed as an individual and also shot a 170 for a share of 27th place on rounds of 87 and 83 while sophomore Sirinporn Phakamad was a stroke back at 171 on rounds of 85 and 86, which was good for a tie for 31st in the field.

A total of more than 70 golfers were in the field.

Ferris State returns to Ohio this coming week as the Bulldogs take part in the Findlay Invitational on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 11-12, in Findlay, Ohio.
