Women's Golf Takes Third At Trine Classic In Weather-Shortened Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team came away with a third-place team finish at the Trine University Spring Classic on Friday (April 8) as weather impacted the Bulldogs' weekend slate.

FSU shot a 337 in the Trine event held at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind., on Friday before weather forced the cancellation of Saturday's final round. 

In addition to the Trine Classic, the Bulldogs were also slated to send competitors to the 2016 Dolores Black Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green State over the weekend in Ohio, but the tournament was called off due to overnight snowfall.

In Friday's action at Trine, the Bulldogs finished behind only 15 strokes behind tournament champion Hope, which carded a 322 team score. St. Mary's College (Ind.) placed second at 336, only a single shot ahead of the Bulldogs. A total of 13 teams were in the field.

Ferris State was led by junior Jordan Duvall, who placed seventh in the field with an 82 score. Sophomore teammate Sirinporn Phakamad was tied for eighth with an 84 as was Claire Jansa as FSU had three individuals finish in the top 10 overall.

The Bulldogs' Katelin Randolph, a freshman, came in tied for 22nd with an 87 while sophomore Gianna Dela Cruz tied for 28th by shooting an 89 in the 18 holes of action. Meanwhile, freshman Isabella Flack tied for 36th with a 91 score and senior Kathleen Koomen carded a 99 to finish tied for 57th in the field.

Ferris State will next be in action on April 16-17 at the Walsh University Invitational in Canton, Ohio. It will mark FSU's final action prior to the GLIAC Championships set for April 22-24 in Allendale.
