Ferris State Women's Golf Puts Together Impressive Round To Place 5th At SVSU Fall Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team put together an impressive opening round en route to a fifth-place overall team finish at the Saginaw Valley State Fall Invitational held this weekend (Sept. 23-24) in Bay City, Mich.

The Bulldogs posted one of their best team scores in recent memory with a 308 figure in Saturday's opening 18 holes of action before coming back with a 314 total to finish at 622 overall in the nine-team field. FSU was +26 for the tournament as a team.

Wayne State won the event with a 6-7 team score followed by Northwood at 610 overall on the weekend at the par 72 Bay City Country Club course, which measured 6,860 yards.

Bulldog freshman Baylee Thompson led the way individually as she tied for runner-up honors with a 145 total and was only six strokes behind champion Krystal Hu of Ashland. Thompson carded one of the program's best individual scores in some time over 18 holes with a two-under par 70 in round one before coming back with a 75 in the final round.

FSU's Maddie Tran placed 20th in the field at 156 on rounds of 77 and 79 over the two days of action, respectively.

Meanwhile, Mari Suokko came in tied for 26th with a 161 figure as she shot a first-round 83 followed by a 78 over the final 18 holes of action.

The Bulldogs' Margo Brown tied for 28th in the field with a 162 total by carding a first-round 80 before firing a 82 on Sunday.

Next up was Morgan Zloto for the Bulldogs in a share of 31st place. Zloto shot a 164 for the weekend on rounds of 81 and 83 overall.

Ferris State will next compete in the Flyer Intercollegiate Championship hosted by Lewis University on Oct. 2-3 in Lemont, Ill.
