Big Rapids, Mich. - A pair of Ferris State University women's golfers have been recognized by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) for their success on the course and in the classroom this past year.

The Bulldogs' Mari Suokko (Yorkville, Wis./Union Grove), a sophomore, and junior Margo Brown (St. Ignace/LaSalle) were both tabbed to the 2017-18 WGCA All-America Scholar Team as announced by the national coaches organization.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team is among the most stringent in all of collegiate athletics with a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.50 overall. They must also be of high moral character and in good academic standing while playing at least 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Both earned the prestigious distinction for the first time in their respective collegiate careers. Earlier this year, both also claimed Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic Excellence Team recognition for their efforts.

This season, both Suokko and Brown competed among FSU's top five golfers in tournament action and both finished among the top 40 overall at the 2018 GLIAC Championships held April 20-22 at The Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

Along with being a member of the FSU women's golf squad, Brown also has competed as a two-sport athlete for the Bulldog women's basketball squad.
