Women's Golf Lowers Score In Final Round At SVSU Spring Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf squad lowered its score by two strokes in the final round to finish 18th overall at the 2019 Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational held over the weekend at the Kearney Hill Golf Links course in Lexington, Ky.

The Bulldogs shot a 337 team score in Saturday's opening round of action before coming back with a 335 figure in the final 18 holes of play on Sunday. The large event featured 23 teams and 125 total golfers competing over the two days of competition.

FSU was led by Mari Suokko and Mackenzie Dale, who both shot 167 for the two rounds and tied for 59th overall. Suokko carded a 83 in the first round and a 84 in round two while Dale shot a first-round 81 score before notching a 86 in round two.

Bulldog junior Margo Brown finished tied for 70th in the field with a 170 mark as she posted a first-round 90 score before lowering her total by 10 strokes with an 80 on Sunday.

Ferris State's Shayna Schneider wound up tied for 79th with a 172 total on rounds of 87 and 85 Saturday and Sunday, respectively, while Elaina DeRose rounded out the lineup with a 174, which was good for a share of 88th place. DeRose shot a 86 in round one along with an 88 in the last round.

The Bulldogs' Emma Polski competed as an individual and placed tied for 65th overall at 169 on rounds of 87 Saturday and 82 on Sunday.

Ferris State will next compete in the annual NC4K Classic hosted by Ohio Dominican University on April 7-8 in Blacklick, Ohio.
