Women's Golf Finishes Second As Rain Shortens Bulldog Fall Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team earned its third top two finish in as many tournaments this fall as FSU claimed runner-up honors in its own Bulldog Fall Invitational over the weekend at Katke Golf Course.

The Bulldogs shot a 313 team score in the first round on Saturday (Sept. 28) and trailed Saginaw Valley State by only two strokes after round one before rain and wet conditions forced the cancellation of Sunday's second round.

FSU was off to a good start in round two and had moved to the top of the leaderboard several holes in, but results from the tournament were determined based on Saturday's opening round since round two was not completed.

Senior Destiny Lawson led the Bulldogs with an even-par 72 in Saturday's action and was only a shot behind SVSU's Sabrina Coffman for medalist honors.

Freshman Karina Vanduinen and senior Shayna Schneider both shot 79's and placed tied for eighth overall.

FSU's Margo Brown came in tied for 19th with an 83 while Mackenzie Dale posted an 86, which was good for a share of 31st place.

Several other Bulldogs also competed as individuals with Elaina Derose finishing third (73) and Mari Suokko 24th (84). Katelin Randolph wound up tied for 31st (86) with Hallie Boles tied for 34th (87) and Abby Grevel 42nd (90) in the field.

Ferris State will next take part in the Findlay Beall Fall Classic on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 7-8, in Findlay, Ohio.
