Women's Golf Finishes Fifth Overall At 2021 GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team moved up a spot to take fifth place overall at the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in Augusta, Mich.

FSU closed out the 36-hole stroke play portion of the tournament on Saturday (April 17) by firing a round of 306 to finish at +44 or 620 for the tournament. The Bulldogs had carded a 314 figure in the first round on Friday.

The top four teams advance to the medal match play semifinals of the league championships on Sunday at the Stonehedge Golf Club's North Course.

Grand Valley State emerged as the stroke play winner with a 582 total for the two rounds followed by Wayne State (608), Northwood (613) and Davenport, which was only two strokes in front of FSU with a 618 figure in the 10-team event.

Ferris State was led by Alayna Eldred, who placed sixth overall in the tournament with a 148 figure on rounds of 73 and 75 on the par 72 course that measured 5,829 total yards.

FSU's Elaina DeRose carded a 152 total and placed tied for 11th in the field, shooting a two-over par 74 in Saturday's action after an initial 78 on day one.

The Bulldogs' Dani Staskowski came in tied for 21st overall with a 156 total as she shot a 75 on day two following her initial round of 81 on Friday.

Meanwhile, Mackenzie Dale posted back-to-back scores of 82 over the two days of competition to place 35th with a 164 total.

Finally, Abby Grevel wound up tied for 45th in the field at 176 overall, improving her score by six strokes with a 85 in the final round after an opening round 91 mark.

The competition was the final scheduled action of the regular-season for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State was ranked among the top 10 teams in the latest NCAA Division II Women's Golf Regional Rankings and the official announcement of the NCAA Division II Tournament field will be announced on Monday, April 26, via NCAA.com.
