Strong Opening Round For Ferris State Golf Teams At Panther Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's golf teams both opened action in the Davenport Panther Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 16) in West Michigan.

The FSU men's team shot a 289 team score in day one action at the Stoatin Brae Golf Club in Augusta and is currently second in the 11-team field at +5 overall. FSU trails leader Ohio Dominican by only two strokes heading into the final round on Sunday.

A pair of Bulldog men's golfers are currently tied for second place overall in Joshua Jeffords and Cannon Risner as each shot one-under par 70 in the first round. Zach Koerner carded a 73 and is tied for seventh individually with Nathan Kraynyk tied for 22nd with a 76 and Mitchell Geik in a share of 53rd place after notching a 85 on day one.

In the women's competition, Ferris State shot a 315 score in the first round and is fifth overall of 11 teams in the event. The women's field is being contested at Stonehenge Golf Club.

The Bulldog women were led by Dani Staskowski, who shot a 73 and is second overall on the leaderboard. FSU's Alayna Eldred is tied for sixth with a 76 while Lauren Kempf shot a 83 and is tied for 39th along with teammate Abby Grevel, who also shot a 83. Finally, Hope Thebo carded a 85 and sits tied for 50th overall.

Action wraps up in both events on Sunday.
