Bulldog Women's Golf Concludes NCAA Regional Championships 11th Overall
Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team closed out action in the 2022 NCAA East Regional Championships with an 11th place overall team finish as the event wrapped up on Wednesday (May 4) in Kansas City, Mo.
The Bulldogs shot a 322 team total over the final 18 holes of action on the par 71 course at the Shoal Creek Golf Club, which measured in at 5,865 yards. FSU had posted a first-round 330 effort on Monday before coming back with a 321 total on Tuesday and concluded the event at 973 overall or +121 in the 15-team field.
Overall, Findlay captured the team championship at +21 for the three rounds, shooting 873 overall. The top five teams only advanced to the NCAA-II National Championships.
FSU was led by Alayna Eldred, who finished tied for 12th overall individually. She posted a 78 in the final round after back-to-back 74 scores the first two days and notched a 226 total for the three rounds.
Behind Eldred was Abby Grevel as she placed tied for 56th with a 249 figure on rounds of 85 and 81 the first two days, respectively, before concluding the tourney with an 83 on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs' Hope Thebo shot a 80 in the final round after carding an 86 in round one and an 84 in round two. She totaled 250 overall, which was good for a share of 59th place.
Meanwhile, Dani Staskowski was a shot back at 251 for the tournament, notching an 81 on Wednesday to place tied for 61st overall. She fired an 88 in the first round followed by an 82 in round two before her final-round best.
FSU's Lauren Kempf rounded out the Bulldog lineup, coming in tied for 67th overall with a 256 total for the three days. After shooting back-to-back 85's the first two rounds, she posted an 86 in Wednesday's action.
The Bulldogs were making their first NCAA Tournament appearance in eight teams as a team under the direction of first-year head coach Sam Stark.
This year's berth marked the Bulldogs' first team trip to the postseason since 2014 when FSU finished fourth overall in the regional championships. The Bulldogs previously made 13 consecutive NCAA appearances from 2002 to 2014.
A total of 15 teams competed in the event and were selected from the East Region from a total of six different conferences in addition to six individual competitors from non-advancing schools.
