Ferris State Golf Places Two Teams Among Top Five In Annual Home Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team had an impressive day on Saturday (Sept. 24) as FSU hosted its own annual Bulldog Fall Invitational at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.

The Bulldogs, who had 13 golfers competing in the tournament, finished with two different teams in the top five overall in the 15-team field. The golfers played 36 total holes in the one-day event that was played under sometimes wet and misty conditions on Saturday.

FSU's "B" team finished second overall at +44 for the day, finishing with rounds of 314 and 306 to come in with a 620 score. The Bulldogs finished only eight shots behind champion Saginaw Valley State, which carded a 612 figure to finish +36 overall.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs' top squad placed fifth with a 627 score on rounds of 315 and 312, coming in +51 for the day. Wayne State was third and Tiffin fourth in front of FSU.

The Bulldogs had two golfes finished among the top four overall individually and were led by Alayna Eldred, who finished tied for second overall with a 147 score on rounds of 73 and 74 for the day. She led the "A" squad.

FSU's Abby Grevel, who competed on the "B" team, placed fourth in the field at 150 overall on rounds of 76 and 74 to also place in the top five. Meanwhile, Elaina DeRose came in tied for eighth with a 154 figure, posting scores of 74 and 80.

The Bulldogs' Kamryn Shannon also placed among the top 15 golfers, recording a share of 11th place with scores of 82 and 73 to finish with a 155 mark. Both Susie Gietl and Dani Staskowski tied for 23rd individually. Gietl shot 81 and 77 for a 158 figure with Staskowski notching scores of 78 and 80 for the same total.

Ferris State's Hope Thebo took home a share of 38th place in the field at 163 on rounds of 88 and 75 while Taylor Musselman tied for 42nd, shooting an 83 and an 82 for a 165 total.

Meanwhile, Lauren Kempf finished finished tied for 48th at 167, totaling scores of 82 and 95 on the day. Finally, Lizzie Anderson shot a 175 for a share of 64th place, posting scores of 86 and 89 in rounds one and two, respectively.

The Bulldogs also had three players compete individually with Morgan Seog shooting a 169 on rounds of 83 and 86 to come in tied for 52nd. Juanita De La Cruz posted a 183 for 75th place overall, carding a 92 followed by a 91, while Kerstin Stadtfeld tied for 76th on scores of 95 and 89 for a 184 total.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 25-26, at the Gilda's Club Laker Fall Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale.
