Ferris State Golf Teams Open Up Day One Play At SVSU Spring Invite In Kentucky

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's golf teams both opened action in the 2023 Saginaw Valley State Spring Invitational on Saturday (March 18) in Kentucky.

The men shot a 316 day one figure and sit 19th overall in a large field at the Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington. Meanwhile, the women fired a 323 team score and are presently tied for fifth place at the Cherry Blossom Golf Course in Georgetown, Ky.

The Bulldog women were led by Alayna Eldred and Dani Staskowski, who both shot a 79 and sit tied for 11th in the field after round one play. FSU's Kamryn Shannon carded an 81 and is tied for 22nd with Susie Gietl tied for 45th following her opening round 84 total. Finally, FSU's Abby Grevel is tied for 50th with an 85 in round one.

FSU's Lizzie Anderson is also competed individually and is tied for 18th in the field after day one with an 80 figure.

Overall, the Bulldog women are only 10 shots off the lead, which is currently held by Findlay with a 313 mark in the first round.

On the men's side, Caleb Bond led the Bulldogs with a three-over par 75 and is tied for 24th in the field. Daniel Shattuck notched a 78 and is tied for 55th with Zach Koerner tied for 80th with an 80 score. FSU's Adam Arif Madzri posted an 83 and is tied for 105th with Shayne Beaufait listed 122nd with an 88 in the first round.

The Bulldogs' Trent Barth is competing individually on the men's side and is tied for 43rd overall with a 77 while Blake Connelly is tied for 114th with an 85 on Saturday.

Final round play in both events takes place on Sunday (March 19).
