Ferris State Women's Golf Earns Runner-Up Honors At UMSL Spring Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team earned runner-up honors in a large field at the Missouri-St. Louis Spring Invitational, wrapping up the 54-hole event with a 922 team score as play concluded on Monday (April 10) at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis.

The Bulldogs finished only 12 strokes behind team winner Grand Valley State as FSU carded a +70 figure for the two days of competition. FSU shot rounds of 308 and 310 on Sunday in day one play and held onto the second-place spot with a 304 figure in the final 18 holes on Monday.

Overall, a total of 15 schools took part in the event with Illinois Wesleyan taking third place (+76), host UMSL fourth (+84) and Illinois-Springfield fifth (+85) in the tournament.

Five of FSU's six golfers placed among the top 26 in the field with Alayna Eldred garnering a team-best sixth-place finish with a 227 total. She shot rounds of 74 and 80 on Sunday followed by a two-over 73 on Monday on the par 71 course measuring 5,800 yards.

FSU's Kamryn Shannon tied for 13th with a 231 score, totaling a final-round 73 as well after shooting scores of 80 and 78 on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Dani Staskowski came in tied for 19th overall with a 234 total. She posted a final-round 83 after garnering a 77 in round one and a 74 in round two.

Ferris State's Lizzie Anderson placed 22nd in the field with a 237 mark, firing a 75 in the last round on the heels of scores of 80 and 82 in rounds one and two, respectively.

Finally, Susie Gietl did not earn a score on Monday, but had carded scores of 77 and 78 in day one play on Monday for 84th overall.

The Bulldogs' Abby Grevel competed individually and wound up 26th overall with a 240 score, posting a final-round 81 after coming in with an 80 in the first round and a 79 in round two play.

Ferris State will next compete in the 2023 GLIAC Championships set for April 21-23 in Augusta, Mich.
