Bulldog Women's Golf Finishes Sixth In NCAA D1 Field At CMU Chippewa Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf squad stepped up a level in competition and finished with a sixth-place finish in a NCAA Division I field at the CMU Chippewa Invitational, which concluded play Tuesday (Oct. 17) in Birmingham, Mich.

The Bulldogs, who were the only non-NCAA D1 school in the field, finished the two-round event with a 650 team score in placing sixth at the Birmingham Country Club. FSU shot a 332 figure in Monday's opening round before closing with a 318 total to finish +74 for the event.

Overall, Ferris State placed sixth of seven teams, beating NCAA D1 Detroit Mercy by 11 strokes. Youngstown State took first (602) with Oakland second (606) and Illinois-Chicago third (611). Host Central Michigan along with Wisconsin-Green Bay were also in the field.

Ferris State's Aspen Sugars finished tied for 20th overall at 157 for the two rounds, shooting a 75 in the final round after opening with an 82 on Monday. She finished +13 for the two rounds.

Meanwhile, Hallie Crozier placed tied for 30th on the leaderboard with a 160 total or +16 overall. She carded a first-round 78 and had an 82 in Tuesday's final round.

FSU's Kamryn Shannon wound up tied for 35th individually at +18 overall or 162 for the 36 holes, notching a 78 in the last round after a first-round 84 score.

The Bulldogs' Dani Staskowski and Taylor Musselman both were tied for 38th overall at 164 (+20) for the two days. Staskowski had an 84 in round one and shot an 80 in round two with Musselman recording an 86 in the first round and a 78 in the final round.

Also, FSU's Abby Grevel came in tied for 47th with a 169 figure (+25), shooting an 82 in the second round after beginning with an 87 in the first round.

Finally, Hope Thebo was 53rd overall with a 175 score (+31). She shot a first-round 87 followed by an 88 in round two.

The Bulldogs will close out the fall portion of their 2023-24 slate on Oct. 22-23 at the Bill Crabtree Memorial in Owensboro, Ky.
