Ferris State Women's Golf Reloads With Signings Of Three Talented Prep Student-Athletes

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf program, which captured the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championship last spring, has announced the signings of three talented prep student-athletes for the 2024-25 season.

FSU head coach Sam Stark has inked standouts Kylie and Katelyn Walker (Westosha Central/Wisconsin) along with Ashley Thomasma (Grand Rapids South Christian) as part of this year's recruiting class.

"We're excited to add these three individuals to our program next fall," Stark said. "All three have great backgrounds in golf and a bright future at the collegiate level. We're thrilled they decided to become a Bulldog."

Kylie Walker is presently the #173 ranked golfer nationally in the class of 2024 according to Junior Golf Scoreboard and was recently chosen as this past year's Wisconsin PGA Junior Girls Player of the year in Wisconsin.

"Kylie will bring a tremendous pedigree with her to FSU," said Stark. "She was named the Wisconsin High School Player of the Year the last four years, and was the Wisconsin PGA Junior Player of the Year this past Summer. She is a tough, yet graceful competitor, with years of quality summer and high school golf results under her belt. Like her sister, she helped her high school team to multiple state championships. Kylie is tremendously dedicated to her academics as well as her athletics; alongside her sister Katelyn, they're one semester away from being named co-valedictorians in their graduating class."

Katelyn Walker is presented ranked #430 in the class of 2024 by Junior Golf Scoreboard and will join her twin sister in the FSU program.

"We are thrilled to have Katelyn as a Bulldog," added Stark. "She is a golfer who has experienced success in high pressure situations, taking home all-state honors each year of her high school career, and experiencing wins the last few summers on the Wisconsin PGA Junior Tour and the Mid-American Junior Golf Tour. Katelyn helped lead her team to back-to-back state titles in Wisconsin, and we will lean heavily on her extensive tournament experience, calm demeanor, and athleticism."

Thomasma is a four-time Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division 3 All-State honoree and also earned All-Ottawa Kent Gold Conference First Team recognition as a basketball standout in 2022-23.

"We are extremely excited to bring Ashley on board," Stark said. "She is a clutch competitor, never finishing outside the top eight at the state finals individually through her four years of a decorated high school career. She is a four-time, first team All-Stater, and was also a first-team all-conference basketball player at South Christian last season. We look forward to adding her strong leadership, and her power off the tee to our squad next season."

The Bulldogs, who reached the NCAA East Regional Championships for the second-straight year last spring, will resume their 2023-24 schedule in March.
