Ferris State Women's Golf Advances To GLIAC Semifinals Before Bowing Out At Augusta

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team advanced to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Semifinals, but came up short in its quest to defend the league title on Saturday (April 20) in Augusta, Mich.

The Bulldogs began the day by shooting a 312 team score in the second and final round of stroke play to advance to the semifinals, but fell to top-seeded Grand Valley State by a 4-1 score in the head-to-head medal play matchup.

Ferris State had shot a first-round 310 team score on Friday in day one stroke play and finished the 36-hole stroke play portion of the championship in fourth place overall at +46 (622) in the eight-team field at the Stonehedge Golf Club's North Course, which measured in at 5,829 total yards on a par 72 layout.

Overall, in stroke play, GVSU took first place with a +28 (604) figure followed by Davenport at +40 (616) and Saginaw Valley State at +44 (620) in front of FSU.

In stroke play, Ferris State was led by Kamryn Shannon, who finished third overall atop the individual leaderboard with a 148 figure, carding a first-round 76 followed by an ever-par 72 in round two.

Shannon was followed by Lizzie Anderson in a tie for 11th overall, notching identical rounds of 77 each day for a 154 total. Both Dani Staskowski and Hallie Crozier tied for 20th individually with 160 scores. Staskowski shot a 78 followed by an 82 while Crozier opened with a 79 and closed with an 81 on the day.

Finally, Taylor Musselman placed tied for 30th at 168 on rounds of 83 Friday and 85 on Saturday in stroke play.

The 2024 GLIAC Championships continued the format established four years ago with each league school competing in 36 holes of stroke play. The low four of five scores counted towards the respective team score for each squad.

Following round two, the top four teams then advance to head-to-head medal play with a bracket format similar to the current format utilized at the NCAA Championships. In the setback to GVSU, Shannon won by seven strokes in her match, but the Lakers claimed the other four head-to-head matchups to pull out the win.

The Bulldogs were listed this past week among the regionally-ranked squads and will now await the official NCAA Tournament selection announcement set to be made later this month.
