Bulldog Soccer Falls To Drury In Sunday Contest

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team couldn't overcome a three-goal first half deficit as the Bulldogs fell to Drury (Mo.) by a 4-1 count in a neutral site matchup on Sunday (Sept. 4) at Indianapolis, Ind.

The Panthers scored three times in the initial 27:08 of the contest, including twice in the initial 13-plus minutes of the outing, en route to the win over the Bulldogs, who dropped to 0-2 on the year.

Drury opened the scoring at the 9:50 mark of the first period on Kara Steiner's marker off an assist from McKenna Feltes.

The Panthers added a goal just over three minutes later as Nicole Williams tallied an unassisted shot at 13:18 of the match.

DU tacked on another first half marker when Steiner notched her second goal of the game on a header in the box off a Hillary Cockrell corner kick at 27:08.

Ferris State's lone goal of the game and first of the 2011 campaign came when senior Bri Borgman scored on a penalty kick at 46:42 of the afternoon.

Finally, Drury rounded out the scoring in the 54th minute when Emily Cline headed in a shot off a Feltes pass.

Drury outshot Ferris 13-9 for the game and also held a 6-3 edge in corner kick chances.  Borgman had three shots to pace the Bulldogs while Williams had a contest-high four for Drury.

Sophomore Rachel McCollum played the first half in goal for the Bulldogs and totaled two saves with Jessica Wineke playing the final 45 minutes and stopping one shot.

Jenna Jones earned the win for Drury as she tallied five saves and allowed one goal in 74:53 of action.

Ferris State was charged with 14 fouls compared to 13 for the Panthers.

The Bulldogs will return home and play their first home tilt of the season on Friday, Sept. 9, against Saginaw Valley State starting at 4 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Soccer Field.  The match will serve as Ferris State's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener and is the first of five in a row at home.
