Ferris Soccer Scores Three Goals In Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team registered its second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Michigan Tech on Sunday (Sept. 18) afternoon at the FSU Soccer Field in Big Rapids.

The Bulldogs tallied a pair of goals in the first half and built a 3-0 lead in improving to 2-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the GLIAC this campaign.

Senior forward Bri Borgman had two of the Bulldogs' three goals in the contest, including the initial one only 13:37 into the match on a rebound shot in the box.  The assist went to junior defender Kasey Ruimveld, who had the first chance to score on the play.

Freshman midfielder Leanne Boehm notched her first collegiate marker only 13 minutes later to give FSU a 2-0 advantage at 26:22 of the first period on a shot off a deflection near the goal.  Freshman forward Sam Kay was credited with the assist on the goal.

Finally, Borgman notched her second goal of the contest and fifth of the season at 74:57 as she tapped in a cross pass from freshman midfielder Stephanie Garland in front of the net.

The Huskies finally got on the board at 79:20 as Kaitlyn Boelter connected on a deep unassisted shot that was too high for Bulldog sophomore goalkeeper Rachel McCollum.

McCollum made seven saves in the contest to earn the victory while Michigan Tech's MaryBeth Spoehr stopped eight Bulldog shots and allowed all three FSU goals on the opposite side.

Ferris State and Michigan Tech both totaled 15 shots apiece in the match, but FSU had 11 shots on goal compared to only eight for MTU.  The Huskies had four corner kick tries with the Bulldogs not attempting a corner in the match.

MTU also netted eight fouls to only six for the Bulldogs.

Borgman paced FSU with three shots while Kay, Garland and Boehm all had two apiece.  McKenzie Hengesh had a match-high four shots for the Huskies.

Michigan Tech dropped to 2-3-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the GLIAC with the setback.

The contest wrapped up a five-match home stretch for the Bulldogs, who will not play at home again until facing Findlay on Oct. 21 in GLIAC action.

Ferris State starts an eight-match road swing by traveling to Ashland on Friday, Sept. 23, for a 7 p.m. (ET) evening match in Ashland, Ohio.
