Women's Soccer Posts Shutout Road Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team scored a pair of first half goals en route to a 3-0 shutout win over Ashland in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Friday (Sept. 23) evening at Ferguson Field in Ashland, Ohio.

The Bulldogs won their second consecutive match and remained unbeaten over their last three contests with the triumph as they improved to 3-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the GLIAC to date this campaign.

Ferris State scored first at 38:06 of the first half on senior defender Kasey Ruimveld's marker off an assist from senior Mekyla Spraggins on a cross pass from the right wing.

The Bulldogs tallied yet another goal in the initial frame as senior forward Bri Borgman notched an unassisted goal struck from the near post at 44:11 of the half.

The final Bulldog goal came at 55:10 as freshman midfielder Stephanie Garland headed in a deflected ball for an unassisted goal to account for the final margin.

Ferris State totaled 12 shots in the contest to 10 for the host Eagles.  AU had eight shots on goal to only five for FSU but could not find the back of the net.

Bulldog sophomore goalkeeper Rachel McCollum made eight saves while playing all 90 minutes to earn the win.  Meanwhile, AU's Rebecca Plescia took the loss after giving up two goals with one save in the first 45 minutes.  Karly Beuck played the final half in relief for Ashland and stopped one shot.

Ferris State also held a six-to-two edge in corner kick chances, but had 11 fouls to only eight for the Eagles.

Garland paced FSU with three shots and Ruimveld had two for the Bulldogs, who played 17 individuals in the outing, which was played under cool and cloudy conditions.

Ashland fell to 3-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play with the home setback.

The Bulldogs will visit Lake Erie on Sunday, Sept. 25, for a 12 p.m. (ET) league tilt at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium in Painesville, Ohio.
