Bulldogs Drop Home Opener To Ohio Dominican

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer squad had an opportunity to play on its home field for the first time in 2012, but suffered a 3-0 setback to Ohio Dominican in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Friday (Sept. 14) at the FSU Soccer Field.

The visiting Panthers scored once in the first half and added two more goals in the final stanza to outlast the Bulldogs in the league opener for both teams.

Ohio Dominican opened the scoring as Lauren Pratt notched her third goal of the year at 43:55 with a goal in front of the net off a cross pass from Erin Bane, who received the assist.

ODU pushed its lead to 2-0 at 56:12 of the second period when Jennifer Holton registered her third goal of the season.  It came on a header off a free kick by Shara Perry.

Finally, Ohio Dominican struck again at 60:38 when Broegan Sautter tallied her first goal off a corner kick.

Overall, both teams finished with 14 shots.  Ohio Dominican notched eight shots on goal with the Bulldogs posting seven scoring opportunities.  FSU did hold a 4-3 margin in corner kick tries.

The Bulldogs were led by Jenna Ruimveld's team-high three shots and two were on goal.  Pratt had a game-high four shots and three on net for the Panthers.

Laura Clark earned the win in goal for ODU as she made seven saves in playing the entire 90 minutes.  FSU junior Rachel McCollum also went the distance and finished with five saves for the Bulldogs.

The physical contest saw the Bulldogs whistled for 10 fouls to six for Ohio Dominican.  The Panthers improved to 4-1 overall this year while FSU dropped to 1-3-1 overall with the setback.

Ferris State will try to get back on track this Sunday (Sept. 16) as the Bulldogs host Ashland in league play at the FSU Soccer Field.  Match time is set for 12 p.m. (ET).
