Bulldog Women's Soccer Ties League Newcomer Walsh In 2OT

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team played its third consecutive double-overtime contest and battled to a 1-1 tie in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play versus league newcomer Walsh on Friday (Sept. 28) night in North Canton, Ohio.

The two teams played a scoreless first half before both scored goals in the second period. Neither team was able to score in either extra session.

The Cavaliers struck first at 55;15 on an unassisted goal from Lauren Jokovich, who was able to lob a shot past the keeper from 35-yards out.

However, less than two minutes later, the Bulldogs tied up the match on Nichole Boehnke's second goal of the campaign, which also came in unassisted fashion on a header off a rebound.

Overall, the Bulldogs held a decisive 28-8 margin in total shots, which included 10 in the first period and 11 in the second.  FSU also had seven shot attempts in the two overtime sessions to only three for the hosts.

FSU junior goalkeeper Rachel McCollum made four saves in 110 minutes of action for the Bulldogs while Taylor Stano had nine saves in 65 minutes for Walsh and Michaella Stucky stopped three shots in 45 minutes of competition.

The Bulldogs were led by Stephanie Garland's game-high 13 total shots, which are the second-most in a single contest in school history.

Ferris State held a four to one edge in corner kick tries with the Bulldogs totaling 13 fouls to seven for the Cavaliers.

With the tie, the Bulldogs are now 3-3-3 overall and 2-1-2 in league action this campaign.  Walsh is presently 5-1-2 overall and 2-12 in the conference.

Ferris State will remain in Ohio to face another league newcomer in Malone on Sunday (Sept. 30) with match time set for 1 p.m. (ET) in Canton.
