Bulldog Soccer Dominates Malone In Convincing 3-0 Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team finished off a two-match trip to Ohio with an impressive 3-0 win over Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) newcomer Malone on Sunday (Sept. 30) in Canton, Ohio.

The Bulldogs scored a single goal in the first half and added two more in the second period to improve to 4-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in the GLIAC.  The Pioneers dropped to 1-7-1 overall and 0-5-1 in conference action with the setback.

FSU held a commanding 36-5 edge in total shots for the day with 14 coming on goal compared to only one for Malone.

The Bulldogs struck first at 34:47 of the first half as junior midfielder Hillary Braun tallied her first goal of the 2012 campaign on a shot assisted by freshman forward Nichole Boehnke.

FSU added a second goal at 76:28 of the second stanza when freshman midfielder Abby Meirndorf psoted an unassisted marker that volleyed in off a deflected shot.

The Bulldogs added their third and final goal at 80:16 as freshman forward Casey Shauman poked in a corner kick for her third goal of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Rachel McCollum went the distance in net for FSU and made a single save in 90 minutes of action.  On the opposite side, Angie Nutial and Sam Soeder split time in goal for Malone and finished with six and five saves, respectively.

The Bulldogs totaled 12 fouls to 11 for the hosts and FSU also held a decisive 13-2 advantage in corner kick tries.

FSU had 21 shots in the opening period followed by 15 in the second half while limited Malone to only two shots in the first half and three in the final 45 minutes of action.

Sophomore midfielder Leanne Boehm paced FSU with a game-high seven shots while Meirndorf finished with six, including a contest-best three on goal.

FSU's 36 total shots rank as the eighth-most in a single contest in school history.

Ferris State returns home to host league archrival and nationally-ranked Grand Valley State on Saturday, Oct. 6, starting at 12 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Soccer Field in Big Rapids.
