Ferris Women's Soccer Shutouts Notre Dame College In Key Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team started off its two-match weekend road trip to Ohio with an important 2-0 shutout over Notre Dame College on Friday (Oct. 26) at Russell, Ohio.
The Bulldogs scored only 14:13 into the game when Abby Meirndorf notched her second goal of the campaign on a rebound shot from six-yards out in unassisted fashion.
The 1-0 advantage stood until 70:30 of the second half when the Bulldogs capitalized on an own goal from Notre Dame to push the lead to two goals.
From there, the Bulldogs were able to hold the hosts scoreless as freshman goalkeeper Maddie Haustein preserved the Bulldog shutout. She made a single save as the Bulldogs limited Notre Dame to only two total shots with one on goal.
FSU held a commanding 30-2 edge in total shots and the Bulldogs had 19 on goal, including five from Meirndorf. Taylor DiCicco had three shots on goal and three others had two each.
Notre Dame's Kristy Kolschetzky stopped 17 Bulldog shots in playing the entire 90 minutes in net for the league newcomer.
Ferris State also held a 5-0 advantage in corner kick chances. The Bulldogs had 12 fouls to 11 for Notre Dame in the outing.
With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 7-6-3 overall and 6-4-2 in league play. Notre Dame fell to 3-12-1 overall and 2-9-1 in GLIAC action with the setback.
The Bulldogs will play their final league regular-season contest on Sunday, Oct. 28, as they travel to Painesville, Ohio, to face the Lake Erie Storm. Match time is set for 12 p.m. (ET).
Friday's win was an important one for the Bulldogs, who entered the weekend listed seventh in the GLIAC's overall standings. The top eight teams following regular-season play will advance to the conference tournament with the quarterfinal-round set for Tuesday (Oct. 30) at four campus sites.
Currently, the Bulldogs are tied for the fifth-most wins in the league following Friday's action as FSU, Ohio Dominican and Northwood all have six league victories on the year.
