Ferris State Women's Soccer Drops One-Goal Game In Midland

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University jumped out to a quick start, but Northwood rallied back to pull out a 2-1 win over the Bulldogs in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) women's soccer action on Friday (Sept. 27) in Midland.

The Bulldogs notched the first goal of the contest only 1:47 into the match as Riley Wood tallied an unassisted goal on a rebound try off the post to give FSU the early advantage.

Northwood managed to tie the contest up at a goal apiece later in the first half when Jessica Esser recorded her third goal of the campaign off an Megan Riley assist.

The Timberwolves then recorded the game-winner at 78:36 of the second half as Shannon Brown scored her first goal of the year on a header off a free kick.  Allison Carroll picked up the assist as NU earned the win.

Overall, the Timberwolves had 12 total shots to seven for the Bulldogs.  FSU held a slim 5-4 edge in shots on net for the afternoon.

Bulldog freshman Savanna Wojtanowski played all 90 minutes in net for Ferris State and made two saves while Northwood's Julie Shields also went the distance and stopped four Bulldog scoring chances.

Ashley Bradstreet led the Bulldogs with two shots.  On the Northwood side, Madison Pines had a team-high three total shots for the day.

Northwood totaled 10 fouls to nine for the Bulldogs and had five corner kick tries compared to two for FSU.

Ferris State fell to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the GLIAC with the setback while NU improved to 3-1-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday (Sept. 29) as they visit Saginaw Valley State for a 12 p.m. (ET) league start in University Center, Mich.
