Ferris State Women's Soccer Keeps Unbeaten Streak Intact With Double OT Tie

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team kept its unbeaten streak intact as the Bulldogs battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Friday (Oct. 25) afternoon in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road tilt against Northern Michigan in Marquette.

With the double overtime deadlock, the Bulldogs ran their current unbeaten streak to four consecutive outings this season.

Ferris State struck first at 34:29 of the first half when Meredith Smith notched the first goal of the day on an unassisted shot from the right side of the box.

However, NMU answered early in the second half as Paula Hafner tallied her seventh goal of the year on a shot from the center of the box at 46:55, which was assisted by Gabriella Garza.

The score stood the rest of the way and thru a pair of two 10-minute overtime sessions as neither team was able to find the back of the net.

Senior Rachel McCollum played the entire 110 minutes in net for the Bulldogs and had five saves while Alexandra Simmons also went the distance for the Wildcats and recorded eight saves.

Overall, Ferris State held a 14-11 advantage in total shots and the Bulldogs had the only three shots in the two overtime sessions.  NMU, though, owned a 7-2 edge in corner kick tries and totaled two in the extra periods.

FSU's Casey Shauman totaled a contest-high five shots for Ferris State with four on goal.  The Bulldogs also received four shots by Riley Wood and two from Smith as each had two on net.
Both Hafner and Wynona Maravilla recorded three shots apiece for the Wildcats.

Ferris State was called for six fouls to three for Northern Michigan with each team whistled for offsides once on the day.

With the tie, Ferris State now owns a 8-5-1 overall record and is 6-3-1 in the GLIAC this season.  NMU is now 4-8-2 overall and 4-3-2 in league action.

The Bulldogs will wrap up their trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula with a key GLIAC road matchup at Michigan Tech on Sunday (Oct. 27) in Houghton. Game time is set for 12 p.m. (ET).

The Bulldogs and Huskies each are third overall in the GLIAC standings with six wins apiece to date in conference action heading into the contest.
