Ferris State Women's Soccer Claims NSCAA All-Academic Team Recognition

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer squad ranked among the nation's top squads in the classroom last year as the Bulldogs have been chosen as a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Academic Team by the national organization.

Ferris State recorded a cumulative 3.58 team grade point average under head coach Andy McCaslin for the 2013-14 academic year, which ranked as one of the three highest figures in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and among the teams in the country.

Overall, Ferris State finished 27th out of all collegiate programs in NCAA Divisions I, III, III and NAIA for both male and female squads, which ranked in the top 3% of all programs who received the distinction.

A total of 881 collegiate soccer teams, which included 595 women's programs from all levels, posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2013-14 academic year. FSU was among only six GLIAC member schools found on the women's team listing. 

In the 2013-14 campaign, on the field Ferris State posted a second consecutive winning campaign for the first time in school history while reaching the league tournament semifinals for only the third time in the program's 15 years. FSU's trip to the semifinals also represented the first time in school history in which the Bulldogs have advanced to the second round of the conference tournament in back-to-back years.

Last fall also represented only the sixth time in the program's 15-year history in which the Bulldogs have won at least nine contests in a season.  

This past year, in 2014, Ferris State closed the year with a 6-10-2 overall record under McCaslin while advancing to the GLIAC Postseason Tournament for the fifth-straight year, which represents the best stretch in program history to date. The Bulldogs' 2014 slate included a 4-2-1 record on their home field.
