Ferris State Soccer Produces Fifth-Straight Victory In Shutout Over Walsh

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team kept its momentum going as the Bulldogs won their fifth-straight contest with a 2-0 shutout win over visiting Walsh in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Sunday (Sept. 20) afternoon at the FSU Soccer Field.

The Bulldogs tallied a pair of first-half goals and shut down the Cavaliers while improving to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC.

Senior forward Nichole Boehnke notched the day's first goal with a shot in the box only 9:49 into the contest for her sixth marker of the campaign. The goal, which was assisted by freshman Carley Dubbert, was her sixth in the five-game win streak for the Bulldogs.

Dubbert then added a goal of her own in the 30th minute of the opening period on a shot that came off a corner kick try by fellow freshman Rachel Fouts. It was her second collegiate goal and would be all the scoring the Bulldogs needed in the victory.

Senior goalkeeper Maddie Haustein earned her fourth shutout in the last five contests, but needed to make only six saves with the defensive effort on the back end by the Bulldogs. She played all 90 minutes in winning her fifth outing of the season.

Ferris State outshot Walsh 29-20 for the afternoon and totaled 11 on goal compared to only six for the Cavaliers. Walsh also had five fouls to three for FSU and received five corners with FSU netting three on the day.

Both Boehnke and fellow senior forward Casey Shauman had seven shots apiece in leading Ferris State with Boehnke putting four on net, including her game-winner. Meredith Smith totaled four shots while Lindsey Scott produced three for FSU.

Meanwhile, Jessie Gearhart and Kristen Conti both led the way for Walsh with six total shots apiece. WU's Michaella Stucky made nine saves in 90 minutes of action in goal for the Cavaliers.

Ferris State wraps up its four-match homestand by hosting Concordia in non-league action on Tuesday (Sept. 22) at the FSU Soccer Field. The contest gets underway at 4 p.m. (ET).

Following Tuesday's home tilt, the Bulldogs will then hit the road for two GLIAC encounters this weekend as FSU visits Malone on Friday (Sept. 25) in Canton, Ohio, before facing Findlay on Sunday (Sept. 27) in Findlay, Ohio.
