Ferris State Runs Unbeaten Streak To Eight-Straight By Virtue Of Double OT Tie

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team kept its school-record unbeaten streak alive as the Bulldogs battled the Findlay Oilers to a 1-1 double-overtime tie in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on Sunday (Sept. 27) at DeHven Field in Findlay, Ohio.

The Bulldogs closed out their weekend trip to Ohio by running their unbeaten streak to eight-straight contests as FSU had won seven in a row heading into the afternoon tilt.

Ferris State jumped on the board first only 22 minutes into the outing when freshman Carley Dubbert scored the opening goal of the afternoon. The assist went to junior Meredith Smith on a cross pass that came from 25 yards away on the right side to the top of box.

However, Findlay answered in the 40th minute of the opening half when Katelyn Anderson scored in unassisted fashion on a shot that just made it past Bulldog senior keeper Maddie Haustein.
From there, though, neither team was able to score in the second half or in two 10-minute overtime periods as the contest remained tied.

Findlay generated more scoring opportunities than the Bulldogs did in the match as they held a 20-10 edge in total shots. The Oilers also owned a 9-4 margin in shots on goal. Five of the six overtime shots came from the Oilers in the two extra periods.

Haustein finished with eight saves while playing all 110 minutes in net for the Bulldogs. Meanwhile, Bre Parrish made three saves in 110 minutes of work for the Oilers.

Findlay received five corner kicks to the Bulldogs' four and FSU also was called for seven fouls to the Oilers' five on the day.

Smith paced the Bulldogs with a team-high three shots while Dubbert added two for FSU.

With the tie, Ferris State is now 7-2-1 overall and it matches the 2003 Bulldog team for the best start thru 10 games in school history. Findlay is now 1-5-2 on the year following the tilt. 

FSU also owns a 3-0-1 league mark overall and is one of three remaining unbeaten teams in conference play along with Grand Valley State and Ashland.

The Bulldogs will next travel to Midland on Friday (Oct. 2) to face Northwood at 2 p.m. (ET) before returing home to host Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (Oct. 4) beginning at 12 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Soccer Field.
