Ferris State Women's Soccer Pushes Unbeaten Streak To Nine-Straight With Road Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team ran its school-record unbeaten streak to nine consecutive contests as the Bulldogs recorded a 1-0 road shutout over Northwood on Friday (Oct. 2) in Midland, Mich.

Senior midfielder Abby Meirndorf returned from injury in a big way by scoring the day's lone goal on an unassisted shot from inside of 18 yards off the right side only 14:16 into the outing. It would prove to be the only score of the afternoon.

A single goal was all Ferris State needed as senior goaltender Maddie Haustein posted a pair of saves in 90 minutes of work while the Bulldogs generated a 15 to 8 advantage in total shots, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal.

Haustein and the Bulldogs both improved to 8-2-1 overall this season with the victory as she posted her fifth shutout victory of the campaign and has now allowed a single goal or less in all nine-straight matches during FSU's unbeaten streak.

Overall, the Bulldogs have also now won eight of their last nine outings this year and are still unbeaten at 4-0-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.

Ferris State's Rachel Fouts tallied a game-high six shots for the Bulldogs while Meirndorf added three, including two on goal.

Northwood's Julie Shields suffered the loss in net as she played all 90 minutes and allowed the single goal on six shots. NU dropped to 2-5-1 overall and 2-3-0 in the GLIAC with the setback.

Both teams finished with four fouls apiece and the Bulldogs received all five corner kick opportunities in the match.

Ferris State returns home and will host Saginaw Valley State in another GLIAC matchup on Sunday (Oct. 4) starting at 12 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Soccer Field in Big Rapids.
