FSU Women's Soccer Runs Unbeaten Streak To 11-Straight With 3-0 Shutout

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team continued its impressive season-opening start as the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 road win over Lake Erie on Friday (Oct. 9) afternoon in Painesville, Ohio.

Ferris State increased its school-record unbeaten streak to 11-straight contests in the decisive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win over the Storm to open a two-game road set in Ohio. The win lifted FSU to 10-2-1 overall this year, marking the best start in school history.

In addition, the shutout victory was Ferris State's seventh of the season, including the third-straight to date.

The Bulldogs jumped on the board first late in the opening half when senior midfielder Abby Meirndorf scored the first goal of the match in the 41st minute at Jack Britt Stadium.

FSU then pushed its lead to three goals in the opening 16 minutes of the second period as midfielder Meredith Smith notched a pair of markers to help the Bulldog cause.

Smith's first goal came only 1:20 into the second frame with the second coming in the 60th minute, giving FSU a 3-0 advantage the Bulldogs would not surrender.

Ferris State held a 12-9 edge in total shots for the contest and also received seven of the eight corner kick opportunities in the outing.

Senior goalkeeper Maddie Haustein played the initial 81:37 in net for the Bulldogs and came up with seven saves before Carlee Coughlin came on in relief for the final 8:23 of the contest.
Marissa Brannon took the loss in goal for the Storm with six saves in 90 minutes.

The Bulldogs also remained unbeaten in GLIAC play by improving to 6-0-1 with the win.
Ferris State is back in action on Sunday (Oct. 11) as the Bulldogs visit Ashland for a 12 p.m. (ET) league tilt in Ashland, Ohio.
