Ferris State Battles Unbeaten Ashland To Double-Overtime Scoreless Decision

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team gave unbeaten Ashland all it could handle on Friday (Sept. 30) as the two squads battled to a scorless double-overtime decision at FSU's Top Taggart Field.

Both teams had opportunities to pull out the win in the extra play, but each squad came up with critical saves down the stretch as the scoreboard remained 0-0 following 110 minutes of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action on a rainy day.

Ferris State closed the contest with a narrow 20-17 edge in total shots, which included a slim 7-6 margin in the two extra periods of competition. The Bulldogs outshot AU 5-1 in the first 10-minute extra stanza before putting two more on frame in the final 10 minutes of the outing.

Bulldog freshman goaltender Grace Kraft played all 110 minutes for the Bulldogs and tallied eight saves while running her mark to 2-1-2 overall this season.

Meanwhile, AU's Courtney Barker recorded nine saves for the Eagles, who entered the contest ranked fifth in the Midwest Region. The Eagles are now 5-0-3 overall following the tie.

The Bulldogs were led by Rachel Fouts, who tallied six total shots, including three on goal for the day. Senior Kate Kelly had four total shots with two on goal.

On the Ashland side, Deijah Swihart paced the Eagles with five shots and had two on net for the visitors.

The Eagles finished with 12 fouls to eight for the Bulldogs and FSU held a six-to-one edge in total corner kick chances for the afternoon.

The Bulldogs will wrap up their GLIAC weekend homestand by hosting the Tiffin Dragons on Sunday (Oct. 2) starting at 12 p.m. (ET) at Top Taggart Field.
