Late Game-Winning Goal Lifts Ferris State Soccer To Road Triumph At Madonna

Livonia, Mich. - For the second time in three outings, the Ferris State University women's soccer team scored a goal in the waning minutes for the win as the Bulldogs topped the Madonna Crusaders 3-2 on Wednesday (Sept. 20) afternoon at The Madonna Athletic Complex (MAC).

The hero this time was junior midfielder Lexi Schodowski, who put a shot in off the right goal post at 86:54 to give FSU the late marker. The goal was her first of the season and first since an injury ended her 2016 season.

Bulldog freshman Alex Halstead opened the scoring at 43:03 of the match with a shot off the post and in for a 1-0 halftime edge for Ferris State. Junior forward Carley Dubbert added her team-best fifth of the season at 56:20 to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0. 

Senior midfielder Hilerie Schatzle earned her first point of the year with an assist to Dubbert. Dubbert recorded her 10th point of the season on her fifth goal, marking the second season in her career that she's passed 10 points. The goal also ties her career-high in single season goals with her freshman campaign in 2015.

The Crusaders had late life, as goals from Brianna Mozariwskyj in the 69th minute and Nicolette Vultaggio in the 78th evened the contest at 2-2.

Schowdowski's goal was her first in nearly a calendar year, dating back to Sept. 11, 2016 against Winona State. 

The Bulldogs had a big edge in second half shots at 9-4 with a 14-9 overall lead for the contest. Ferris State put eight of its 14 total shots on goal, with Dubbert totaling three on her own. Each team had three corner kicks for the day as well. 

Ferris State's win pulls the Bulldogs to 4-4-0 on the season.

FSU returns home for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match up with the Northwood Timberwolves on Friday (Sept. 22) starting at 4 p.m. (EST) at the South Athletic Fields.
