Ferris State Soccer Shuts Out Northwood In GLIAC Opener At Home

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team netted a season-best five goals en route to a 5-0 victory over the Northwood Timberwolves on Friday (Sept. 22) afternoon at the South Athletic Fields.

Ferris State sophomore forward Brandi Wagner scored a goal and earned two assists to lead the Bulldogs to a win in their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener with the Bulldogs outshooting the Timberwolves 33-6 for the contest. 

The match was a scoreless one until FSU sophomore forward Maddie Fouts scored her first collegiate goal, which stood as the game-winning strike. Wagner earned her first assist of the game as Ferris State took a 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead 3:29 later in the first half when junior midfielder Alexis Schodowski scored her second goal of the season and second in as many games. Wagner earned her second assist in less than five minutes.

Out of halftime, junior forward Carley Dubbert continued her scoring tear, marking a new career-best with her sixth goal of the season at 51:03 to increase the FSU advantage to 3-0 overall. Senior forward Hilerie Schatzle earned her second assist of the season on Dubbert's goal.

Wagner scored her first goal of the season for a 4-0 Ferris State lead at 61:49 from sophomore midfielder Jenna Hong, who earned her first assist of the year.

Finally, at 77:43, sophomore forward Morgan Irwin made it 5-0 Ferris State with her first career goal on a shot off a pass into the box from freshman midfielder Bri Rogers to cap the scoring. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Kraft earned the victory with a five-save shutout, for her second shutout of the season.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 5-4-0 overall. The Bulldogs next host Saginaw Valley State on Sunday (Sept. 24) at 12 p.m. (EST) in GLIAC play at the South Athletic Fields in Big Rapids.
