Ferris State Soccer Registers Decisive Conference Road Victory In Shutout Fashion

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team tallied a pair of first-half goals and rolled to a decisive 5-0 road triumph over the Tiffin Dragons on Friday (Oct. 6) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action.

FSU scored only nine minutes into the contest when senior Hilerie Schatzle found the back of the net on a deflection off a TU defender with the goal assisted by midfielder Rachel Fouts.

Ferris State then took a 2-0 advantage in the match as Mackenzie Dawes converted for a goal on a pass received in the box from Gabrielle Karam.

The lead stood until the 59th minute when FSU increased its advantage to 4-0 with a pair of goals less than 30 seconds apart. The first came from Bri Rogers in unassisted fashion on a shot from the top of the box over the keeper with the second scored by Brandi Wagner via a cross to the far side of the box from Alex Halstead.

Finally, FSU tacked on another goal at 73:02 when Janelle Quinn scored on a rebound off the keeper with the assist going to Maddie Dickens.

Overall, the Bulldogs held a commanding 27-8 edge in total shots and a 16-4 margin in chances on net. In addition, the Bulldogs earned seven corner kick opportunities to only one for the Dragons.

Sophomore Grace Kraft picked up the win in net for the Bulldogs with four saves in 80:49 of action. The loss went to Tiffin's Samantha Ortenzi, who made 11 saves in 74:38 of work.

Both Fouts and Wagner paced FSU with four total shots apiece on the day.

Finally, the Dragons had nine fouls to Ferris State's five overall.

With the win, the Bulldogs matched both Grand Valley State and Ashland for nine points atop the conference standings with those two teams both facing each other later Friday afternoon. FSU is now 7-5 overall and off to a 3-1 start in the GLIAC.

The Bulldogs will next take on Ashland on Sunday (Oct. 8) with match time set for 12 p.m. (ET) in Ashland, Ohio.
