Women's Soccer Suffers Heartbreaking Double-Overtime Setback At Ashland

Ashland, Ohio – The Ferris State University women's soccer team fell in a battle to move into sole possession of second place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings in double overtime by the final score of 2-1 to the Ashland Eagles on Sunday (Oct. 8) at Ferguson Field in Ohio.

Sophomore defender Tia VanSuilichem scored Ferris State's goal that had the Bulldogs ahead until the late stages of regulation at 50:12 of the contest from senior midfielder Hilerie Schatzle on a shot off of a corner kick.

The Eagles tied the game, however, at 86:49 on a goal by Julie Lacock, who took a shot off a corner to knot the score at 1-1 in the game, which forced overtime.

Ashland went on to take the contest with 89 seconds to play in the final overtime when Morgan Bittengle scored from Julie Lacock on a rebound chance that was left loose in front of the Bulldog goal following a free kick.

For the day, Ferris State outshot Ashland 17-14 with an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Freshman forward Alex Halstead had three shots on goal to lead FSU, including a near winner that was stopped with a diving save in the second overtime.

Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Kraft made three saves on five shots on goal in the loss, as Ferris State fell to 7-6-0 overall and 3-2-0 in GLIAC play.

With the loss, the Bulldogs return home for a GLIAC weekend homestand to take on Davenport on Friday (Oct. 13) at the South Athletic Fields at 4 pm (EST) followed by a visit from Purdue Northwest on Sunday (Oct. 15).
