PREVIEW: Bulldog Women's Soccer Preps For Home Slate Against New GLIAC Competition This Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team will be back in action for a two-game homestand this weekend as the Bulldogs will compete against two brand new Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opponents in the Davenport Panthers and the Purdue Northwest Pride.

The Bulldogs are currently coming off a split in Ohio last weekend where the Bulldogs beat the Tiffin Dragons (Oct. 6) 5-0 and lost to the Ashland Eagles in double overtime (October 8) 2-1.

The Ferris offense was on fire against the Dragons as five different Bulldogs scored goals. However, despite producing 17 shots, the Bulldogs could come up with only a single goal in a tight defensive battle against Ashland. 

The Bulldog offense has been on an upward slope the past six games in which they have scored 16 goals overall. The Bulldogs have scored 23 goals on the season and average 21.2 shots per game.

Junior captain Carley Duppert leads the Bulldogs in scoring with six goals and freshman Bri Rogers is second on the team with three goals. Freshman Janelle Quinn, senior Hilerie Schatzle, sophomore Brandi Wagner and junior Lexi Schodowski each have two goals on the season.

The Bulldogs enter the homestand currently 7-6 overall on the season and 3-2 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. Ferris State is 4-2 at home this year.

Ferris State currently is fourth in the GLIAC women's soccer standing behind Grand Valley State, Ashland and Davenport, making this weekend's home action important in the league race.

Both Davenport and the Purdue Northwest are presently midst their first year battling GLIAC competition and the Bulldogs have not faced either as of yet in league play.

Davenport currently sits at third in the GLIAC standings and is 7-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference. Meanwhile, Purdue Northwest is currently last place in the conference with a 0-10 overall mark and a 0-6 conference record.

The Bulldogs will take the field on Friday (Oct. 13) against Davenport starting at 4 p.m. (ET) and then host Purdue Northwest on Sunday (Oct. 15) at 12 p.m. (ET) at the South Athletic Fields. Sunday will be Senior Day with FSU slated to honor its senior class prior to the final league regular-season home tilt.
