Ferris State Soccer Wins Important GLIAC Battle Against Davenport

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team topped the Davenport University Panthers 4-1 in Friday (Oct. 13) afternoon action at the South Athletic Fields in Big Rapids to advance their record to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. 

The win was an important one for the Bulldogs as both teams entered the game in the upper half of the GLIAC standings.

Junior Forward and captain Carley Dubbert led the way as she came out with two early goals in the first half to push the Bulldogs to a 2-0 lead over the Panthers. 

Dubbert's first goal was a shot just inside the box at 16:57 with an assist from freshman forward Mackenzie Dawes. Her second goal was a pass upfield from freshman midfielder Bri Rogers for a shot inside the box at 17:08 of the opening half.

Dawes tallied the Bulldogs' third goal with a shot off of a deflected free kick with assists from Dubbert and senior midfielder Hilerie Schatzle in the second half. 

Finally, sophomore forward Brandi Wagner netted the final tally with five minutes left in the contest to give the Bulldogs the decisive win.

Ferris State controlled the ball in the offensive zone for a majority of the game and totaled 23 shots on the day. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Kraft only allowed a single goal on DU's eight shots on net. 

The Bulldogs totaled 12 shots in the first half and 11 in the second half. 

Davenport goalkeeper Lorrin McCarty finished with six saves on 10 shots for the game. Panther forward Alayna Hilgendorf had six shots, including three of which were on goal and she finished with DU's only goal of the game. 

The Bulldogs are at home again on Sunday (Oct. 15) as they take on the the Purdue Northwest Pride at 12 p.m. (EST) at the South Athletic Fields on the FSU Campus. It will also be Senior Day with FSU honoring its senior class prior to the contest.
