Ferris State Wins Senior Day Tilt Over Purdue Northwest

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team triumphed past the Purdue Northwest Pride with a 4-0 victory in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Sunday (Oct. 15) at the South Athletic Fields.

Ferris State junior forward Carley Dubbert scored the first goal of the game with an assist from sophomore forward Brandi Wagner. Dubbert had seven shots, with four on net along with one assist to lead the Bulldogs to yet another victory in the GLIAC. The goal was Dubbert's ninth of the season.

The second goal was a long shot from freshman forward Alex Halstead that slipped through the goalkeeper's hands for her second goal of the season. Sophomore forward Morgan Irwin earned an assist on the goal, which gave FSU a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Freshman forward Mackenzie Dawes scored her third goal of the season at 65:24 with an assist from Dubbert in the box to push the Bulldogs to a 3-0 lead in the second half.

The final goal came from senior midfielder Rachel Fouts after an assist from freshman midfielder Bri Rogers at 69:00 for a 4-0 advantage. Fouts had a total of five shots, three of which were on net in addition to her first goal of the campaign.

Ferris State posted a team shut out and only allowed three shots on goal for the game. The Bulldogs had a total of 30 shots on goal overall and outshot the Pride 22-0 in the opening half of play.

FSU senior goaltender Nyla Peterkin earned the victory and played the first half in goal for Ferris State. Sophomore Alison Chesterfield played the second half and made three stops to preserve the shutout.

Sunday's victory came on Senior Day as the Bulldogs honored a seven-member senior class prior to the contest.

Ferris State improved its record to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in the GLIAC with the victory. In their last four outings, the Bulldogs have now outscored the opposition by a 14-3 margin.

With two wins this week, the Bulldogs have also taken over sole possession of third place in the GLIAC standings and trailing only Grand Valley State and Ashland with two league regular-season outings remaining.

The Bulldogs next hit the road to play the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday (Oct. 20) at 4 p.m. (ET) in Marquette, Mich.
