Women's Soccer Secures GLIAC Tourney Quarterfinal Home Contest With Win At Michigan Tech

Houghton, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer squad defeated the Michigan Tech Huskies by a final score of 1-0 on Sunday (Oct. 22) in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action in Houghton.

In FSU's final regular-season league action, the Bulldogs came out with a strong defense effort to earn the shutout with the lone goal coming on a penalty kick.

Freshman midfielder Bri Rogers posted her 5th goal of the season on the penalty kick goal in the second half to lift the Bulldogs to the victory. 

With the win, Ferris State also secured a quarterfinal-round home contest for the GLIAC Tournament starting at the end of the month.

Junior forward Carley Dubbert led the team with seven shots, which included six on goal. Sophomore defender Tia VanSuiluchem was right behind her with four total shots and three on net. In addition, sophomore forward Morgan Irwin added three shots on goal. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Alison Chesterfield tallied four saves in the shutout victory.

Overall, Ferris State had 23 shots with 16 on goal and the Bulldogs earned five corner kicks for the game.

The Huskies fell short with 10 shots, including four on goal while adding two corners. They posted 15 total saves on FSU's 16 shots on goal.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 10-7 overall and finished league action with a 6-3 mark.

The Bulldogs will play their final regular-season contest against rival and nationally-ranked Grand Valley State on Friday (Oct. 27) at 4 p.m. (ST) in Big Rapids at the South Athletic Fields. The contest will be a non-league tilt.

The GLIAC Tournament will then begin with quarterfinal-round play on campus sites on Oct. 31.
