Ferris State Soccer Hosts SVSU In GLIAC Quarterfinal Round Tuesday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer squad will open Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament action at home on Tuesday (Oct. 31) as the Bulldogs host Saginaw Valley State in the quarterfinal-round.

Match time is set for 3 p.m. (ET) at the South Athletic Fields on the FSU campus.

The first 100 FSU students will receive free tickets to the contest and a costume contest will take place at halftime for over $100 in prizes, including $50 to the Blue Cow in downtown Big Rapids.

Ferris State is coming off a thrilling 1-0 triumph over nationally third-ranked Grand Valley State last Friday, which represented the Bulldogs' first victory against the Lakers in 15 years and snapped GVSU's 15-match win streak.

The Bulldogs will be the number three seed for the league postseason tournament and host sixth-seeded Saginaw Valley State. The other first-round league tourney matchups include #1 seed Grand Valley State hosting #8 Michigan Tech along with #4 Tiffin entertaining #5 Davenport. Finally, #2 seed Ashland hosts #7 Northern Michigan on Tuesday.

The winner of each of the four quarterfinal-round contests will advance to the league semifinals on Friday, Nov. 3, at the site of the highest remaining seed. The league championship match is on Sunday, Nov. 5, at the same location.

The Bulldogs will be making their eighth consecutive GLIAC Tournament appearance this season and 10th overall in program history. FSU has advanced to the conference semifinals three times in the last five years to date.

Presently, the Bulldogs are 11-7 overall and finished conference regular-season action with a 6-3 GLIAC mark this season. FSU beat SVSU 2-1 at home in the only previous matchup between the two teams this season back on Sept. 24 in Big Rapids.

Last week, prior to the win over the region's top-ranked Lakers, the Bulldogs were listed eighth in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Rankings. The official NCAA Tournament selections will be announced following the conference tournament.

Tickets for Tuesday's quarterfinal will be sold at the gate starting one hour prior to kickoff.
