Late Goal Surge Stretches Ferris State Win Streak To Three Consecutive Contests

Indianapolis, Ind. – Two goals in the final nine minutes of play propelled the Ferris State University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over the Quincy Hawks in non-conference neutral site regional play on Sunday (Sept. 9) at Key Stadium at the University of Indianapolis.

The Hawks jumped in front 1-0 at just 3:13 of the contest when Cassidy Foley fired a shot past Ferris State redshirt freshman goalkeeper Taryn Meiste, who made a diving effort for the shot.

While the Hawks controlled the early part of the contest, a red card assessed to Quincy's Gabby Orlando at 18:11 gave the Bulldogs a numbers advantage and they controlled play for much of the remainder of the contest.

Though Ferris State controlled the play, it came down to the final minutes. Junior Tia VanSuilichem floated a left-footed try over the head of diving Quincy goalkeeper Emilee Autry that found the top right corner of the net to tie the game at 1-1 at 81:18 of the match. The goal was VanSuilichem's first of the season.

The Bulldogs then took their first lead of the day at 86:54 when sophomore Kira Budzynski scored her first collegiate goal off a ball that hit the post and came back to her for an easy roll to the far corner.

For the match, Ferris State outshot Quincy 15-4 with a 7-3 margin in shots on goal. Meiste picked up her second win in as many outings to move to 2-0-0 while Autry took the loss for Quincy.

Ferris State, now 3-1-0 and winners of three consecutive games, will travel to Hammond, Ind., to take on the University of Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars in neutral site play on Tuesday (Sept. 11) at 4 p.m. (ET).
