Ferris State Soccer Tops School Win Streak With Eighth Consecutive Triumph

Marquette, Mich. - The nationally 17th-ranked Ferris State University women's soccer team broke the school record for longest winning streak at eight consecutive matches with a 2-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victory over the host Northern Michigan Wildcats at then NMU Soccer Field on Sunday (Sept. 23) in Marquette.

The Bulldogs got on the board first at 21:02 when sophomore Mackenzie Dawes drove the net hard and drilled in a mishandled rebound for her second goal of the season, giving FSU a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Abigail Gilmore picked up her first assist of the season on the Dawes goal.

Ferris State opened up a 2-0 advantage when senior captain Carley Dubbert scored her fourth goal of the season and the eventual game-winner at 65:10 of the contest. Dawes earned her second helper of the year on the play.

Northern Michigan responded only 5:12 later when Caroline Halonen scored her seventh of the year from Credence White to cut the Bulldog lead to 2-1.

For the game, Ferris State outshot Northern Michigan 25-13 for the day with a 14-5 edge in shots on goal.

FSU junior keeper Alison Chesterfield moved to 5-0-0, making four saves in the win, while Brianna Frontuto took the loss, splitting duties with Emma Vermette. Both allowed a Ferris State goal.

The win marks the first eight-match winning streak in school history as the Bulldogs broke the school record set by the 2015 squad that finished with the most wins in school history.

Ferris State returns home to take on the Ashland Eagles in GLIAC play at the Bulldog Soccer Field on Friday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m. (ET).
