Ferris State Soccer Earns First-Ever NCAA Tourney Bid; Will Host Regional Action This Week

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer squad has officially received its first-ever NCAA Tournament berth as the announcement of this year's tournament field was made in an online selection show on Monday evening.

The Bulldogs will be the number three seed for the Midwest Regional and play host to first and second round national tournament action in the sub-region this Thursday and Saturday, Nov. 8 & 10, at the Bulldog Soccer Field in Big Rapids.

As the number three overall seed, the Bulldogs along with top-seeded rival Grand Valley State both earned the right to host first and second-round tourney action.

FSU will square off against sixth-seeded McKendree (Ill.) in the first round on Thursday, Nov. 8, with second-seeded Ohio Valley meeting seventh-seeded Ashland in the other first-round matchup at FSU.

The first contest between OVU and Ashland starts at 11 a.m. (ET) with the FSU-McKendree tilt set for a 2 p.m. (ET) start. The winners will play in round two on Saturday at 12 p.m. (ET).

Ferris State will be making its first-ever NCAA Tournament bid after narrowly missing the field a year ago.

Ferris State, which is coached by head coach Andy McCaslin, is presently a school all-time best 15-3-3 overall this campaign and finished as the runner-up during both the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular-Season and Tournament this year.

This past weekend, the Bulldogs made their first-ever appearance in the GLIAC Tournament title match and reached the conference tournament for the ninth consecutive year.

The NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Committee announced the field of 56 teams for the 2018 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship. The Atlantic, South and South Central regions received six championship berths. The Southeast and West regions received seven championship berths. The Central, East and Midwest regions received eight championship berths. Championship berths were determined based on the number of institutions sponsoring the sport in each region.

The two finalists in each subregion will advance to third- and quarterfinal-round competition to be played Thursday, Nov. 15 or Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17 or Sunday, Nov. 18. The semifinals and championship games will take place Nov. 29 and Dec. 1 at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh hosted by Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, and SportsPITTSBURGH.
