Bulldog Women's Soccer Finishes Historic Season Ranked 10th Nationally In Final Poll

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team finished its historic 2018 run by earning the highest national ranking in school history from the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Poll by slotting in at 10th in this season's final poll.

The Bulldogs wrapped up their season, the winningest in school history with a 17-4-3 overall record, the best in school history as well. The #10 ranking is the highest in school history, and the first ever in the top-10 in the country in a run to the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship match as one of the nation's final 16 teams playing. The Bulldogs qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history and hosted, winning their first two tournament games, all on an at-large bid.

Under the winningest head coach in school history in Andy McCaslin, who also was a part of the Midwest Regional Coaching Staff of the Year, the Bulldogs shattered several all-time school records in 2018. Ferris State set records for most wins (17), least losses (4), highest winning percentage (.771), best road winning percentage (.818), longest winning streak (8), longest unbeaten streak (14), most goals scored (50), lowest goals against average (0.92), most goalkeepers to record a shutout in a single season (3), and tied the record for most shutouts in a single-season (9).

In individual play, freshman forward Pia Nagel shattered the all-time single season mark for game-winning goals with seven, nearly doubling the old record of four. Junior goalkeeper Alison Chesterfield also set the new record for single-season winning percentage in a minimum of ten games played (.833).

Ferris State also set a record for most players to earn All-GLIAC Honors with seven being named to the list. Nagel, Rogers and junior Tia VanSuilichem all earned first team honors. Dubbert, sophomore Maddie Dickens and Chesterfield were named to the GLIAC second team, while sophomore Abigail Gilmore was a GLIAC honorable mention team member

The Bulldogs had three players earn USC All-Region Honors, with Nagel being named an all-first team member, sophomore Bri Rogers being named to the second team, and senior Carley Dubbert earning third team honors.

Dubbert also was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® 4 Women's Soccer Team. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Dubbert owns a 3.98 grade-point average in pharmacy, and finished her Bulldog career ranked second in game-winning goals (10), sixth in goals (24), assists (14) and points (62) after a 23 point senior season.

The 2018 season was the 20th in program history and first in the history on their brand new Bulldog Soccer Field where they also set a program record for single-season attendance and attendance average.
