Bulldog Women's Soccer Battles Truman State To Double-Overtime Deadlock In Opener

Big Rapids, Mich. – Despite a decisive edge in shots, the nationally #12-ranked Ferris State University women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw in a non-conference match-up with the Truman State Bulldogs on Friday (Sept. 6) at the South Athletic Fields in Big Rapids.

The season-opening tilt was played on the artificial surface after the game was moved off the natural surface due to inclement weather.

Ferris State senior goalkeeper Alison Chesterfield played the full 110:00 minutes, making four saves in a shutout effort, equaled across the field by Truman State keeper Beth Hopwood, who finished with 14 saves.

The Bulldogs had a 22-9 shots attempted edge in the contest and a 14-4 lead in shots on goal as they controlled much of play throughout the match.

FSU sophomore Pia Nagel finished with five shots on goal, leading all players in the match, including three point blank chances that were staved off by TSU's Hopwood.

For the game, Ferris State had eight corner attempts and held Truman State without a single try from the corner.

In overtime, Ferris State had a 6-1 lead in shots on goal, but the Bulldogs were unable to solve Truman State's Hopwood for a decisive tally as the game settled into a 110-minute 0-0 draw.

Both Ferris State and Truman state moved to 0-0-1 on the season with the draw.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Sunday (Sept. 8) when they face off with the Quincy Hawks in another regional contest starting at 12 p.m. (ET) at the Bulldog Soccer Field.
