Women's Soccer Posts Shutout Road Win In North Dakota

Minot, ND – The nationally 15th-ranked Ferris State University women's soccer team won its second consecutive non-conference game as the Bulldogs defeated the Minot State University Beavers 2-0 at Herb Parker Stadium in North Dakota.

Ferris State senior goalkeeper Alison Chesterfield ran her own and the team's shutout streak to three games and 290 minutes as the Bulldogs have yet to allow a goal this season.

Ferris State surged ahead early as junior Abigail Gilmore found a loose ball near the goal and fired in her first goal of the season at 8:04 of the match. The goal went unassisted.

Later, at 31:37, the Bulldogs pulled ahead by a pair when sophomore Pia Nagel scored her second goal of the season and second in as many games when sophomore Grace VerHage served a ball across the goal mouth to Nagel, who finessed it by Minot State keeper Erin Rafferty for a 2-0 lead. VerHage picked up her first assist of the season on the goal.

Ferris State had a 10-4 edge in shots and 6-2 on goal through 45 minutes of play as they took their 2-0 lead into the half.

In the second half, the Bulldogs got off to a clean start but had to fight off a late flurry by the Beavers. Minot State hit a goal post and was thwarted by a diving Chesterfield late as they failed to crack the Bulldogs for a goal.

The Bulldogs finished with a 15-8 lead in shots and 10-4 shots on goal advantage for the match. Ferris State attempted five corner kicks to Minot State's two.

Chesterfield picked up the win to improve to 2-0-1 on the season, making four saves in the effort. Rafferty took the loss for Minot State with eight saves.

The win was Chesterfield's 15th career victory as she moved into a tie for fourth in program history with fellow senior keeper Grace Kraft. Chesterfield passed Alana Dombrowski ('05) to move into fourth. It was also her third shutout of the season and ninth career clean sheet.

Ferris State heads to Aberdeen, South Dakota, to take on the Northern State Wolves on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m. (ET).
