Bulldogs Shutout Cardinals To Stay Undefeated In GLIAC Play

University Center, Mich. - A late charge by Ferris State University women's soccer pushed the Bulldogs past the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals 2-0 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Friday (Oct. 11) at Braddock Field.

The Bulldogs were outshot 6-2 in the opening half, but managed to flip the switch with a 9-4 advantage in the second half.

In the second half, at 67:12, a high service by FSU junior Maddie Dickens sprung sophomore Emily Mergener on a breakaway. Mergener cut left and tucked it by SVSU keeper Alyssa Watts for her first collegiate goal, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Dickens picked up her second assist of the season on Mergener's goal.

Ferris State extended the lead at 75:45 when junior Gabrielle Teodorescu found a rebound that bounced off of SVSU's Watts and fired it past her for a 2-0 lead. The goal was Teodorescu's third of the season and came unassisted.

In goal, senior goalkeeper Grace Kraft made two stops for her fourth shutout of the season, and moved to 5-0-0 overall. The shutout is her 14th career clean sheet good for second most in program history.

With the win, Kraft became just the third goalkeeper in Ferris State history to record 20 or more career victories, joining 2012 graduate Rachel McCollum (27) and 2006 graduate Carla Gilbertson (32).

For the Cardinals, Watts made four saves in the loss as the Bulldogs finished with a 6-2 shots on goal advantage for the game.

Ferris State improved to 3-0-0 in conference play and 9-1-1 overall. The 9-1-1 record represents the best 11-game start in program history, topping 2018's 8-1-2 mark to open the year.

The Bulldogs head next to take on the Ashland Eagles in GLIAC play in Ohio on Sunday (Oct. 13) at 1 p.m. (ET).
