Ferris State Rallies Late Before Falling To Ashland In GLIAC Women's Soccer Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team battled back late, but could not knot the score as FSU suffered a 2-1 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road setback against the Ashland Eagles on Sunday (Oct. 13) in Ohio.

The Eagles scored twice in the opening half and withstood a late Bulldog charge in garnering the win.

Ashland struck first at 28:47 of the first half when Bella Petrock found the back of the net off an assist from Juliana Markovic.

Less than 10 minutes later, the Eagles moved ahead 2-0 as Sydney Wright scored off a feed from Hannah Riddle to make it a two-goal game.

The Bulldogs finally found the back of the net at 88:52 when Tia VanSuilichem put one past the Ashland goalkeeper with the assist credited to Mackenzie Dawes.

Overall, Ferris State and Ashland both totaled nine shots apiece with all nine of FSU's shots coming in the second half of play. The Bulldogs also had a 6-4 shots on goal edge for the contest and earned seven corner kick opportunities to two for the Eagles.

FSU's Alison Chesterfield played the entire 90 minutes in net for the Bulldogs and made two saves while AU's Hannah Lee stopped five shots in 90 minutes of work.

With the setback, FSU dropped to 9-2-1 overall this year and 5-1-1 in the GLIAC. Both of FSU's losses this year have come to the Eagles, including one in non-conference action.

Ferris State returns home and will host Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday, Oct. 18, starting at 4 p.m. (ET) at the Bulldog Soccer Field in Big Rapids. FSU then hosts Purdue Northwest on Sunday, Oct. 20, beginning at 12 p.m. (ET).
